Countryside Live 2010

2nd Jun 2010

Organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, last year some 10,014 visitors came through the gates. Countryside Live has a firm focus on its agricultural heritage with traditional classes for cattle and sheep, and with demonstrations for pig breeds. In addition there are equine classes and master sessions with international showjumper Graham Fletcher.

Food, and in particular regional produce, has always played an important part in the event. Live demonstrations in the cookery theatre will get everyone’s tastebuds tingling, and there will be an amazing array of fruit, vegetables, flowers and honey across the specialist classes. Complementing these will be numerous “foodie stands” – ideal for browsing, talking to the producers and plenty of samples.

For an all-action attraction, then this year features the Xtreme Trial Motorbikes who are sure to impress! Whilst in “gentler mode” the programme includes dog agility demonstrations, have a go archery and falconry. And for the first time there are displays of alpacas, courtesy of the Yorkshire Alpaca Society.

For youngsters, there is plenty to do, particularly within the “Country Crafts Experience” with everything from felt-making to straw-craft, to bread and sausage-making.

Saturday’s tug of war competitions never fail to attract the crowds and this year it is planned to include a national competition.
